Each year on New Year’s Day we arrive in Oaxaca. 2019 was no different! It is such a wonderful feeling after being on the road for a week to finally get out of the car and breathe in the warm air and soak up the sunshine.
As promised in my year-end note, I am launching a video blog. I realize that driving while recording is probably not the safest approach so moving forward, I will be on “terra firma”. Today’s episode is from the rooftop terrace of my house in Oaxaca.
ZEROING OUT and BEAMING IN
I finished 2018 with a 40-day meditation program with my dear coach friend, Sally Hope. We spent 20 minutes a day for 40 days, ZEROING out what was blocking and BEAMING in what we wanted in the new year. It was a great challenge for me to just “Be” for 20 minutes a day. I recognized at the end of 2018, I was starting to feel drained. In my 40 days, I zeroed out that draining energy and beamed in “Joy and Ease” for 2019.
Back in 2010, I read a Harvard Business Review article by Tony Schwartz called The Productivity Paradox and it really rang true for me. Managing your time doesn’t make you more productive. It is all about managing your energy. How do I get more energy? I commit to “being more.. and doing less”.
“Being” is incredibly hard for me, paradoxically speaking. As someone with 3 of her top 5 themes of the Gallup Strengths assessment in the Executing Domain, not being in the mode of “making things happen” feels foreign and, well..unproductive. However, after spending 40 days of “being” for 20 minutes daily, I know that it is transformative and gives me energy.
Joy and Ease
I have committed myself to spend 20 minutes daily on my roof top terrace just being..reading something for pleasure, not for work. Sounds easy doesn’t it? Well not for someone who is more comfortable striving than gliding. I am thrilled to have a companion in this new practice to support me. I just picked up the book written by another amazing coach friend, Karen Pery, titled “There’s Got to Be a Better Way: An Overachiever’s Guide to Discovering Joy”
I love the note she included when she signed it for me,
“Aloha, Mary! Always chase the dream, it is waiting to meet you.” – Karen
2019 is starting with enthusiasm and energy. The new Vista Global website redesign is underway and I am approaching that project from the perspective of “Joy and Ease”. I am excited about what we are creating.
What’s on your docket for Q1 2019? What are you BEAMING in for 2019? I would love to hear from you. Let’s Connect!
One last thing… do something today to make yourself smile and someone else smile. It makes the world a better place!
I will be in touch soon.. gliding into the next episode! Hasta Pronto!
